Happily Ever After

Happily Ever After

A few weeks ago, my family and I traveled to Kentucky to attend my daughter's wedding. It was a beautiful ceremony! We couldn't have asked for better weather, or better people to celebrate with! Beyond anything, I am so happy she is happy!

Happily ever after... It's a need that's instilled in us since birth. We listen to stories of princes and princesses chasing after their dreams and the story never ends until they receive their happily ever after. Perhaps it teaches perseverance? Or provides hope? It's good to have goals after all...

I had a hard time writing before the wedding, and for a week or so after. I'm not sure why; my mind was stacked full of things to write about, but nothing would come out. I wonder what 'happily ever after' actually means. First, it's a wedding, then a house, then a family... If one follows the traditional expected route.

I've always had a hard time not wanting more. I suppose it's the human condition, and maybe it's not a terrible trait, but I hope my daughter can remember to pause and be happy NOW, not ever after, if that's makes sense. It's a gift to be able to live in the now - one I'm sure most authors do not possess. Much of my life is spent in other worlds, with best friends I'll never meet but never forget. Over the summer, I've written a couple books that don't necessarily have a happily ever after. It felt freeing actually, to write something with an unexpected ending. Sometimes those endings are just as good, if not better, than a happily ever after!
