Imperfections

Imperfections

Finally, winter is over!! I don't know about you, but I've discovered that winter tends to last longer and longer each season. My husband and I both grew up in Maine, but we would love nothing more than to spend the winter in Jamaica! Maybe someday! Life is all about goals, right?

I've been a busy lady this winter! I am recording my own audiobooks, but I am a procrastinating perfectionist, so it has been taking me much longer than I originally anticipated. Over the last couple of weeks, I have gone back through my very first book, DEMON ESHA, editing mistakes that I couldn't ignore when I was reading it aloud in my studio. Perhaps I'm the only one who would have noticed the errors, but I don't do things half-way, and I was mortified enough as I was rereading the book and picking up on all the mistakes. On the other hand, it is a testament to how far I have come in my writing. I am proud of myself! I can't wait to get the Trilogy done and out there for all of you to listen to! It has been pretty fun, in a crazy, exhausting sort of way!

As I was lying out in the sun this week (yay!!), I heard song lyrics that said, "People connect with imperfection". I thought about it for a long while, coming to the conclusion that it is probably more true than false. Imperfections link us to humanity; they connect us. Imperfections allow us to grow, change, and morph into whoever we're meant to become. I am far from perfect. I struggle with where and when to use commas; I worry far too much about what people think of my stories, and I spend hours thinking of the right names for my characters. I want to be one of those popular authors with thousands of five-star reviews, but I have to remind myself that even those authors started at square one. Yes, self-publishing offers obstacles, but it also offers freedom and consistency, at least for me. I'll get there someday.  For now, I will continue learning from my imperfections, and I will keep plugging away at my audiobooks! DEMON ESHA, coming soon!!
