When I Was A Little Girl

When I Was A Little Girl

When I was a little girl, ten years old or so, I would ride my yellow, banana-seat bicycle to the horse farm less than a mile from where I grew up. I would bring my backpack with carrots for the horses and pen and paper for myself. I would sit in the grass and write for as long as I could. It's where my love for writing began.

When I said I wanted to be an author, I was told I needed to find a real job. I didn't stop writing, but I didn't make it a priority either. I wrote my first novel at fifteen - not sure I'll ever publish that one! And I would write poetry at night, by moonlight if necessary. Writing has always been the way I express myself. Quiet, yet powerful, words can be liberating even if no one reads them.

Now, I write full-time. I'm slowly building an audience and fan base! I have ten books published and four more in the queue! I am so proud of the little girl who never gave up; the girl who has binders and binders of work from years and years of writing. Perhaps someday those early works will be made public, you never know! All I know is you can never give up on your dreams, even if you're told they're foolish - especially if you're told they're foolish! I have ten books on my shelf now telling me I can do whatever I set my mind to! And so can you!
